What do bananas and climate change have in common?
A lot more than you think!
The ‘How Bad Are Bananas?’ Youth Project is officially underway. Over the next 2–4 years, Future We Want, Fyffes, and 13 amazing UK youth organisations will work together to empower thousands of young people to take real climate action while also tackling food waste in their communities. And yes, bananas are at the heart of it!
What’s the project about?
This initiative is all about supporting youth leaders so they can inspire young people to take meaningful action.
Together, we’ll be:
- Creating a brand-new Carbon Literacy Course designed for group leaders
- Upskilling leaders to deliver climate education in a practical, engaging way using the Bananas Game.
- Empowering young people to cut carbon and reduce food waste locally
- The Bananas Game to spark conversation, learning, and action
Our launch weekend at Biblins Youth Campsite gave us some great opportunities to explore
- What leaders and young people need from climate education
- How young people really feel about climate change and food waste
- How to co-create a course that empowers action
And yes… we brought bananas (thanks, Fyffes! 🍌), because sometimes climate education is best served with a bit of fun!
The Bananas Game played a starring role too, sparking conversations and showing just how much impact young people can have when they have the right tools. It was great to see the group leaders going bananas full of energy, ideas, and curiosity!
This project is about giving leaders the tools to inspire the next generation, making climate action engaging, practical, and yes… a-peeling!
